PCRC2007 — 1st Peace and Conflict Resolution Conference

23rd - 25th of March 2007, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Venue: Hollywood Hotel

The 1st Peace and Conflict Resolution Conference (PCRC2007) was held from 23rd to 25th March 2007 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, hosted at the Hollywood Hotel. As the inaugural edition of the series, PCRC2007 marked the beginning of what would become one of Tomorrow People Organization’s most respected international academic conferences on peace, conflict studies, and mediation.

Taking place at a historically significant location shaped by conflict, transition, and reconciliation, PCRC2007 brought together a small but diverse group of scholars, practitioners, peacebuilders, and students who shared a commitment to understanding conflict and advancing sustainable peace. Although the conference was organized at a time before digital archiving became standard, this founding edition laid the groundwork for many principles that continue to define PCRC today:

  • Meaningful, cross-cultural dialogue in an intimate academic environment
  • Interdisciplinary exploration of conflict, peacebuilding, justice, and human rights
  • Collaborative approaches to mediation, reconciliation, and conflict transformation
  • Space for reflective exchange, shared learning, and real human connection
  • Commitment to peace as a collective responsibility across societies, institutions, and cultures

PCRC2007 established the foundation for a conference series that would, in the years ahead, connect participants from over 100 countries and contribute to global conversations on peacebuilding, human rights, dialogue facilitation, and conflict resolution.
